Domain Name Information - What IPSTAG and Nameservers should I use for my hosting with Ultimate Internet?
Click Here - Can I point multiple domain names to my account?
Sure, we call these ‘mappings’. You can buy mappings through your control panel and then assign domain names to them. Once you’ve done that you can then point them at any hosting accounts you have with Web Design UK. Please note that a mapping with Ultimate Internet gives you full email facilities with the mapped domain – this is something unique to Ultimate Internet. - Do my domains have to be transferred into Ultimate Internet in order to use my account?
Customers do not have to transfer their domains into us in order to use their hosting space, provided the nameservers for those domains can be moved over to ours. Our nameservers are ns.mainnameserver.com (217.68.23.1) and ns2.mainnameserver.com (217.68.23.2). Please note that if domains are not transferred over to us, you'll need to arrange for the renewal of those domains separately with whomever they reside with, and those domains will not enjoy the full range of free services that our domain registration customers obtain by default. - Why do DNS changes take 24-48 hours to propagate?
Every domain has at least two nameservers assigned to it and those nameservers hold records for the domain. However, when another server somewhere else in the world, queries the nameservers for DNS records, it will usually keep a local copy of the DNS record so that next time it needs to know what IP address the domain resolves to, it already has the answer. Once changes are made to the actual DNS records on the two nameservers that are assigned to your domain, these changes will gradually filter through to the other servers in the world so that everything is up to date, and it is this process that normally takes 24-48 hours - Can I have my contact information removed from the WHOIS database?
The contact information of an individual who has registered a domain name is required to be legitimate contact information. This information is also required to be available to the public through the WHOIS database. According to ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), the governing body for the registration of domain names, a domain name registered by an entity providing invalid contact information is grounds for revocation of the registration of the domain name. Real contact information is required by ICANN in order to generate accountability for what is placed on a domain by any entity registering a domain name. HOWEVER for .uk domains, if the registrant of the domain name is an individual, they have the right to opt-out of the whois database, and that facility appears in your control panel for .uk domains only as a result. Your details will still be logged at Nominet UK as the registrant of the domain name, but they will not appear on the whois database. - I don't have a credit or debit card - can I pay for a domain name by cheque/bacs or some other method rather than by card?
UK customers can, exceptionally, use BACS, cheque or standing order to pay for hosting and domain registrations. However, this is not recommended, especially with domain registrations, because of the built in time delay where the domain may be lost to someone else. - Am I the owner of the new domain name you register when I sign up?
Yes! Only Name Server settings and the Technical Contact information is placed in our name. The Name Server change is required to use our services, while the Technical Contact is required so we can ensure your domain functions properly at all times. You are still the owner of your domain. - Are there restrictions on the domain types you can host?
At present, we will only support the most commonly used domain types to ensure service levels remains exceptionally high. We support .com, .net, .org, all .uk domains, .info, .biz, all CentralNIC domains like .uk.com's and so forth. Those domain types make up more than 98% of all domains used inside the United Kingdom. - What are the zone files?
A Zone file is a special file on a name server that designates a domain name with all of its associated sub domains, IP addresses, and mail server. Parts of the zone file include the A record, CNAME, and MX records. A zone file is also called a "DNS table". They are one of the basic structures of the Internet that allow domains to work. - I have just bought a domain name and it isn't showing up in my web browser.
Domain registry databases can take between 24-48 hours to be updated so even though your domain has been registered it may still show up on WHOIS or "domain checkers" as being available. Also, during this period, your domain name may not work in a web browser and email using the domain name may not work. If your domain is still not working after a full 48 hours please contact support. - How do I transfer my UK domain to Web Design UK?
Click Here - Is it possible to remove or cancel a mapping?
You have full control over removing a mapping and, once bought, you can add remove or move your mapping to any of the hosted websites that you have with Ultimate Internet. Please remember that if you do remove a mapping it will also remove any email settings you have for the mapped domain. To cancel a mapping you simply need to choose not to renew it when its renewal is due. - How long will it take to transfer my domain?
If you ordered a new domain name through us, it will take 24-48 hours. If you are transferring an existing domain name to Ultimate Internet, it will take 24-48 hours after you make the DNS change with your registrar. - What does the MX record do?
An MX record sets the mail server for a given domain name. If you have the domain myname.com, setting an MX record for myname.com will determine where mail for

is sent. The mail server must be configured to accept mail for the domain name. By default your domains with Ultimate Internet will have an MX record pointing to mail.ultimate-host-uk.com. You can change this if you wish to use a different mail server. To do this you need to log into your control panel, select the domain that you want to change the MX record for and select DNS configuration. - Is there a fee for domain transfers?
All our prices are listed on our website. Please check for latest pricing at www.ultimate-domains-uk.com - What is a CNAME?
A CNAME is simply an alias for a host record. CNAMEs allow you to have more than one DNS name for a host record. CNAME records point back to the A record. So if you change your IP address in your A record, all your CNAME records will automatically follow the new IP of the A record. The alternative solution is to have multiple A records, but then you would have multiple places to change the IP address which increases the chances of error. Using CNAMEs is just more efficient. The most common CNAMEs are www and ftp. - What restrictions are there on the domain name I can choose to register?

Every .uk domain name has a tag this allows Nominet, the UK naming authority to know who's looking after which domain name. Our IPSTAG is HEARTINTERNET. If you have your own IPSTAG or wish to leave a domain on another IPSTAG, you are able to use it with our hosting accounts by changing the nameservers externally to ours and creating a domain reference, however this means that our control panel will not be able to make changes for contacts and nameservers for you.
