Website Problems

  • I can't delete the contents of my webspace completely, why is that?
There are certain folders which are used and created by the webserver. If you attempt to delete them, the webserver will automatically create them. The 'public_html' folder is one such directory. If deleted it will be recreated, but no index file will be placed in there, and so an error will result when trying to find the website.

Please ensure that all your website files are uploaded into the 'public_html' folder, any files placed in the root directory of the webspace will not be accessible.

  • Why is my secure site not showing the padlock in the browser?
The main reason for this is the use of a http:// link to a graphic or script inside the site rather than a virtual reference to the file which prevents the padlock from appearing.

Make sure all links to any page you wish to be secure do not contain any absolute http:// links to files.

  • I can't get SMTP working with my Actinic install. Why?
Versions prior to v7 do not support authenticated SMTP. To obtain a free fix for this, go to http://www.drillpine.biz/actinicstuff/V6(V5)-UsingSendMailInsteadoOfSMTP.txt

  • My images aren't uploading into the Web Builder, why?
There are some limitations on the size of images that you can load into the Web Builder software, this is done to make sites appear quickly and also to limit bandwidth consumption. The limit is 1MB. Reduce your images down to 72 dpi and you shouldn't have a problem.

  • I've put up my site but I still see the standard index page. What's up?
You may be seeing a cached version of the page; try holding Shift while pressing Refresh. If this doesn't help, check you're putting your site in the right place; it should go under the "public_html" folder.

  • When I try and view my website I get an HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden message.

  • I can't see the images on my website. Why?

  • I've installed the formmail script, but my form isn't working. Why?

  • Why do I get a red (x) where my images are suppose to appear?
Check to make sure the names of your files match the path in your HTML code. If your files are all capital letters and your HTML code calls them with lowercase letters, they will not find the image which will cause the page to show a broken image link (red x). You should also compare the location of the image with the location of the file on our servers to assure the path is identical. If the paths are not identical, the image will appear as a broken image.

  • What happens if I exceed my bandwidth?
For those accounts where there is a bandwidth allocation , if you exceed the bandwidth allocation, you'll receive an email to let you know and then your account will be deactivated. We do this to ensure that customers are charged for extra bandwidth.

  • Can you set "register_globals" to ON in PHP for me?
Such a global change to the php.ini config is a well known security risk and affects all other customers and isn't something we'd consider doing. However you can set that and any other variable using the method below.

You can create your own php.ini file inside whatever sub-directory your script is in. You can then determine the exact behaviour for your PHP scripts yourself.

  • The images on my website have been corrupted, what went wrong?
If you are uploading your images using FTP, uploading the images using the Binary setting rather than ASCII. Also, your images may be getting corrupted during transfer from your computer to your website. Try using a different location from which to upload your files.

  • My links are not working. What is wrong?
Make sure that you have specified the correct file path, especially if you are using sub-directories. Your links should not refer to a physical location on your computer's hard drive, such as the a: or c: drive.

You should also be sure that you are using the correct file names and that you have uploaded all of the referenced files to the correct directory.

  • I've uploaded my site on my hosting account but cannot see it?

  • I made some changes to my site, but when I view it still has the old pages, why is that?
It is likely that you are pulling up a cached ( a stored) version of your page. To fix this hold down ctrl+shift and clicking the reload page button. You can also try clearing your cache, on IE you go to the Tools Menu then choose Internet Options then click "Delete Files"
